Lutesville Motor Co. has offered quality new and pre-owned vehicles in the Marble Hill area for more than 70 years.
The history of Lutesville Motor Company can be traced back to December of 1935. At that time Roy B. Underwood and J.P. Long obtained the Ford franchise located in Glen Allen. The pair decided to call their store Long and Underwood Motor Sales.
Long sold his share of the business to Lon A. Choate in 1944, and the firm was moved to its present location in what was then known as Lutesville (currently Marble Hill). Mr. Underwood purchased the remaining portion of the firm from Mr. Choate in 1945 and decided to change the name to Lutesville Motor and Underwood Tractor Sales.
Eventually the dealership quit selling tractors and the name was changed once again, this time Lutesville Motor Company. On Nov. 13, 1957 Mr. Underwood passed away and his wife became the dealer. At this time the late J.B. Wallis became general manager and served in that capacity for about a year, being succeeded by Clint Elledge, who served through 1964. In 1965, Paul David Thomas son-in-law of the late Mrs. Margie Underwood, became general manager.
Other family members associated with the business at that time were Roy Richard (Rick) Underwood, President who served as Sales Manager, and Mrs. Mary Carolyn Underwood Thomas who were son and daughter of the late Mr. & Mrs. Underwood. In 2005 Mr. Thomas retired and Nick Underwood son of Roy Richard Underwood took over as General Manager. In Nov. of 2007 Mary Carolyn Underwood passed away.
Family members currently working in the dealership are Roy Richard (Rick) Underwood, Nick Underwood and Mitzi Thomas Rhodes daughter of Paul D. Thomas and the late Mary Carolyn Underwood Thomas.
Despite changing names and locations over the last 73 years, Lutesville Motor Company is still a hometown, family-owned and operated dealership.
