Lutesville Ford History

Our family-owned and operated Ford dealership first got its start in 1935 and has been owned by the same family ever since. Roy B. Underwood and J.P. Long obtained the first Ford franchise, which was located in Glen Allen and called Long and Underwood Motor Sales. After Long sold his share of the business to Lon A. Choate in 1944, the firm was moved to its present location in Marble Hill, formerly known as Lutesville. Mr. Underwood then purchased the remaining portion of the firm from Mr. Choate in 1945 and decided to change the name to Lutesville Motor and Underwood Tractor Sales. Eventually, the dealership quit selling tractors and the name was changed once again, this time to Lutesville Motor Company.

On November 13, 1957, Mr. Underwood passed away and his wife became the dealer. At this time, the late J.B. Wallis became general manager and served in that capacity for about a year, being succeeded by Clint Elledge, who served through 1964. In 1965, Paul David Thomas, son-in-law of the late Mrs. Margie Underwood, became general manager. Other family members associated with the business at that time were Roy Richard (Rick) Underwood, President who served as Sales Manager, and Mrs. Mary Carolyn and Underwood Thomas, who were son and daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Underwood. In 2005, Mr. Thomas retired and Nick Underwood, son of Roy Richard Underwood, took over as General Manager. Then, in November 2007, Mary Carolyn Underwood passed away. Family members now working in the dealership are Roy Richard (Rick) Underwood, Nick Underwood and Mitzi Thomas Rhodes, daughter of Paul D. Thomas and the late Mary Carolyn Underwood Thomas. For just shy of 90 years, we've served the small southeastern Missouri town of Marble Hill with pride, and we're located roughly 100 miles south of St. Louis and 30 miles west of Cape Girardeau, MO.
